What Healthy, Quality Lawns Need: A Review

Begin your lawn with a proper foundation: grass species, soils, sunlight, drainage and efficient establishment techniques.

Measure the size of your lawn, calibrate spreader to apply the correct amount of lime and fertilizer.

Use slow-release nitrogen formulations at moderate application rates only when needed.

Mow lawn frequently to a 2.5 - 3.5 inch height. Leave clippings and keep your mower blade sharp.

Monitor, identify and evaluate pests. Accept some level of pest populations.

Use soil tests to determine pH and nutrient levels. Adjust only as recommended.

Use phosphorus-free fertilizer on established turf. Only add phosphorus when planting new seed or when called for by a soil test.

Irrigate deeply, infrequently and during early morning hours.

Control thatch levels and reduce soil compaction.

Use pesticides only as a last resort, spot treat areas when pest populations exceed acceptable levels.
